Although not always necessary, a coat of primer seals the surface, helps the wallpaper adhere evenly, and makes it much easier to remove later without damaging the drywall.

Use a smoothing tool or wallpaper brush to work out air bubbles from the center outward as you hang each strip. For seams, butt edges firmly together (don't overlap) and use a seam roller once the paste begins to set.

Once your strip is smoothed in place, use a broad knife (straight edge) held firmly against the wall and a sharp utility knife to trim the excess. Always cut with a fresh blade for clean lines.
