How to Install Pre-Pasted Wallpaper
Follow our easy step by step guide for the perfect install of your N&F Pre-Pasted Wallpaper
PREPARE THE WALL
- Make sure your wall is dry, smooth, clean, and even.
- Remove old wallpaper and repair any imperfections. If your walls are freshly painted, allow at least 30 days to dry completely.
- Dark patches can show through lighter papers — prime first if needed. We recommend a wallpaper primer such as PRO-977 Ultra Prime® or Drywall Pro 2 in 1, for the best finish and easier removal down the line.
IMPORTANT: Test adhesion in an inconspicuous spot before committing to the full install, especially on delicate or specialty surfaces.
GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES
Have everything at hand before you begin.
- Clean Sponge and Bucket of Water
- Level & Pencil
- Utility Knife
- Smoothing Tool
- Measuring Tape
- Seam Roller
STEP ONE
Prepare & Activate the Adhesive
Lay out the panels first and check that the pattern lines up before you add any water. Place one panel face down on a clean surface.
Use a clean sponge or roller to evenly wet the wallpaper backing — every area should be moistened, with no dry spots.
TIP: To keep the wallpaper from drying out, wet only one panel at a time, right before you hang it. Fold the panel gently from both ends toward the center (paste-to-paste) and let it rest for 1–2 minutes while the adhesive activates and becomes tacky.
STEP TWO
CREATE A PLUMB LINE
Using a level, draw a light vertical pencil line on the wall where you'll hang your first panel. This is your true vertical — it ensures the wallpaper hangs straight from the very first panel, even if your corner isn't perfectly square.
STEP THREE
HANG THE FIRST PANEL
Unfold the top half of the moistened panel and position it against the wall, aligning the edge with your plumb line. Leave about ½ inch (1–2 cm) of overhang at the top and bottom for trimming later.
Smooth the panel from the center outward with a brush or smoothing tool to press out any bubbles. Continue unfolding and pressing the rest of the panel down gently — never stretch the material. Wipe away excess moisture immediately with a damp sponge.
STEP FOUR
ALIGN & SEAM THE NEXT PANELS
Hang each panel edge to edge, never overlapping. Carefully match the pattern and smooth each new panel as you go.
Once the adhesive has begun to set, run a seam roller lightly along the joins for a clean, seamless finish.
STEP FIVE
TRIM & FINISH
Use a sharp utility knife and a straightedge to trim the excess at the top and bottom edges. Replace your blade frequently — a dull blade tears instead of cutting cleanly.
Wipe off any adhesive residue right away, before it has a chance to dry.
STEP SIX
DRYING & AFTERCARE
Let the wallpaper dry naturally — avoid drafts or direct heat for the first 24 hours. Wait 10–14 days before cleaning it for the first time.
From then on, dust with a soft cloth or a slightly damp sponge. Avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemicals.
To remove Pre-Pasted Wallpaper, gently peel a corner and pull downward at a 90° angle. The wallpaper should release easily once moistened with water.
